Bangkok’s Hidden Canals by Rocket Boat

Most of us associate the name of Co van Kessel with bicycle tours. Van Kessel was one of the pioneers, starting more than 20 years ago, exploring Bangkok’s back alleys by bike.

Now he offers much more than cycling. Khiri Travel checked out his new boat tour. There are plenty of longtail boat tours and dinner cruises in Bangkok. However, on this trip, clients experience three different kinds of boat transport.

The first part travels between Chinatown and Nonthaburi by public express boat. From Nonthaburi clients continue by longtail boat through the smaller canals (klongs) of Bangkruay and disembark at Wat Saotong Hin. The next part is by a fast and small ‘rocket boat’ – very exhilarating – to Klong Mahasawat where a longtail boat returns guests to Chinatown.

Khiri Travel likes the experience for a number of reasons. The trip gives an excellent impression of modern and traditional Thai living along the banks of the Chao Phraya River and back klongs. There are great photo shoot opportunities. The tour also has several fascinating walking parts, such as through a local market in Nonthaburi and at Wat Saotong Hin and its nearby community. All in all, the trip delivers great Bangkok insights and shows the continued importance of public waterways in Thailand.
