Khiri Travel Lao has launched a half day (morning) tour in Luang Prabang called, “The Rice Experience.” The aim is show the central role of rice culture in Laotian society and Buddhism.

Khiri guests will be picked up from their hotel in Luang Prabang at 8am by a local tuk-tuk and will head out for a hands-on rice experience in the fields. We will learn how rice is traditionally grown and produced in 13 steps. All the steps are explained and demonstrated by charming local employees. Active involvement will make it a fun and educational experience. Are you ready to plough the paddy field with a buffalo called Susan? [Don’t’ ask….]

After learning so much about this Lao staple, an important part of the rice experience is taste. Khiri’s guests can sample sticky rice accompanied by a traditional dipping sauce, rice crackers and other accompanying snacks made from rice grain.

There will also be activities going on around you – traditional trades plied outside of the rice season. A blacksmith forges blades for reaping the harvest. Storage baskets are woven from natural materials. A stroll around the organic vegetable gardens is a pleasant way to finish off.

We then take guests back to their hotel in Luang Prabang by tuk tuk by 11.30am.
