Khiri Travel’s roundup of new and intriguing hotel options from around the region….

The Vine Retreat, Kep, Cambodia
Where can we find this hotel?
The Vine Retreat lies in the forested hills of Phnom Voar (Vine Mountain), Kep province. The hotel is approximately four hours from Phnom Penh via a road that the French created in the 1920s.

What are the surroundings like?
The hotel provides guests with a truly unique experience of Cambodian country life. The wooden veranda opens to a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape of hills, a variety of fruit trees and random palm trees. From the hotel, it’s just a short drive to reach the sea where Rabbit Island (Koh Tonsay) makes for a great day in the sun and sand.

Why do we think it’s special?
The Vine Retreat is an ecologically conscientious bed and breakfast with an organic farm. The hotel serves local Khmer cuisine from fruits and vegetables harvested from its own gardens. Guests are invited to enjoy the province’s pride and joy — the aromatic and pungent Kampot pepper grown in the retreat’s own plantation.

Yoma Cherry Lodge Hotel, Ngapali beach, Myanmar
Where can we find this hotel?
In April this year, the Khiri Travel Myanmar team undertook an inspection of this hotel on Ngapali beach. The hotel is in Lintha on the beaches of the southern part of Rakhine State.

What’s it like?
It is a small boutique beach hotel. The architecture is charming, the garden well-tended and there is a beautiful beach terrace, ideal for chilling out. Yoma Cherry Lodge offers a total of 12 rooms split between Garden Pavilions (eight rooms) and Beach Pavilions (four rooms). Khiri admires the individually and tastefully decorated rooms.

Why do we like it?
Beside the charm of the hotel, we also like the Yoma Cherry Lodge for its support of the Andrew Clark Trust and the fact that the hotel trains young locals to prepare themselves for a rewarding job in hospitality.

PATIO Hotel and Urban Resort, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Where can we find this hotel?
The newly opened PATIO Hotel & Urban Resort is located close to the Independence Monument and just a short walk away from Phnom Penh’s river promenade. The Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and National Museum are all within comfortable walking distance.

What is the hotel like?
The resort has 45 luxurious rooms and modern amenities, a swimming pool on the rooftop with stunning city and river views, and restaurant and bar. It is a quality boutique hotel with charming floor tiles juxtaposed against concrete walls, combined with warm wooden touches.

What are alternative options to this hotel?
Travelers can find a similar stay to the PATIO in the well-established Plantation Urban Resort.

Champa Lodge, Kampot, Cambodia
What is the hotel like?
Champa Lodge is located along the Kampot River and offers travelers a truly Cambodian experience. Guests can relax in the luxury of a traditional, stylishly furnished Khmer wooden lodge. Each private veranda gives stunning views to the river and sugar palm studded rice paddies.

What can we do in the surroundings?
Kampot is a province where farming and fishing communities abound. Champa Lodge is a great base to explore the ecological and cultural diversity of Cambodian village life. The lodge has a private beach and clients can go kayaking, cycling or boating to explore the beautiful riverside scenery. Another option is a visit to the crumbling colonial architecture of the Bokor mountain hill retreats.

Why do we like this hotel?
The Champa Lodge is a new three-star resort that Khiri Cambodia’s general manager recently inspected. We like this hotel so much because of its unique Khmer houses. They were dismantled in the provinces and re-assembled on the banks of the Kampot River, where they now offer a great experience to our guests.
