Bicycles and Beer – Phnom Penh’s Mekong Islands and a Brewery

October 10, 2013 by | Filed Under: Adventure Travel, Cambodia, Culinary, News

Those who like cycling will love this ride in and around Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh. The distance we cover is approximately 25 km. The route is mostly flat tracks and small roads.

We cross the Tonle Sap River by boat and start our ride through Cham Muslim villages on quiet back roads to reach the Mekong islands. Once we reached the islands, the ride leads through orchards and market gardens. Enjoy the peaceful farmland and learn about the lives of the local people. Normally we expect to return to Phnom Penh around lunchtime. A lunch option we like to recommend is the Friends Restaurant. It provides underprivileged street children with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the hospitality business. All profits are reinvested into Training Centre activities.

In the afternoon we take a tour around Kingdom breweries where we learn all about the machinery and the processes that go in to producing local beer. After the tour (and a well-deserved beer), we make sure guests arrive back in the hotel safely.
