Vibrant Community at Samprang Festival
Last December I went on a spontaneous walking trip in the Rattanakosin area with two good friends passing Samprang District: an old shophouse area, which served as a trading and service center mainly for government officials in the past.
The 100+ year old shophouses are similar to those found in Singapore and Malaysia and have been restored during the last 10 years or so, resulting in a very photogenic area.
This time we were lucky as there happened to be a festival going on with lots of activities. There were various cooking demonstrations, art sessions, traditional dances, musical performances, and much more. And of course, lots and lots of great Thai food being served all over the place.
The little square in the middle of Samprang is perfect for events like these. It is obvious that we’re dealing here with a very vibrant local community who are keen to preserve their heritage, they even have their website: Samprang Facebook.
Even without festivals this area is definitely worth visiting. You can get in touch with me for more information via firstname.lastname@example.org.
