Banteay Chhmar Temple Ruins
In Cambodia, Banteay Chhmar is one amazing temple. Recently re-visited by a representation of our office in Phnom Penh, here we present you a snapshot of some of the wonders of this forgotten temple.
It is one of the most important archeological complexes of the Angkor era. Its incredible bas reliefs have been preserved over time, even though the temple was heavily looted – until as recent as 1999. Also Khmer Rouge used the temple grounds as one of their active areas. Today the ruins are being preserved by the Global Heritage Fund from California.
Banteay Chhmar’s temple complex is about 2,5 hours driving from Siem Reap, resulting in less people taking the time to visit. It is close to the Thai border from where it’s an easy access via Poipet or O’Smach border crossings. The temple complex is well worth making the extra effort to visit.
