Introducing Global Discovery member Bram Evers from the Netherlands. After studying Spanish in Barcelona and completing a two-year program in International Tourism at the NHTV in 1997, Bram traveled to South America to begin a career in the tourism industry. He never left and now owns a travel company with offices in Ecuador, Peru, Columbia and Bolivia.

We asked him a few questions to get to know a bit more about his connection to Global Discovery and Khiri Travel:

  1.      Please tell us about yourself.

My name is Bram Evers and I was born 37 years ago in the beautiful city of Haarlem, the Netherlands. I lived in Haarlem until I finished high school after which I took a year to do something completely different. This is very common in the Netherlands. Many young people leave for a year of traveling.

I went to Barcelona to study a new language. After nine months of intensive studying, I was almost fluent in Spanish. I stayed on at the school during the summer to give introductory talks to the new students. My tasks were to organize city tours, excursions, nightlife and even weekend breaks. I became the personal coach of some of the students and had my first opportunity to create tours!

I knew then that tourism was going to be my passion so I enrolled in the International Institute for Tourism in the Netherlands. After a two-year program, I was off to Quito, Ecuador for my first internship in April 1997. After 17 years, I am still working in Ecuador and now lead my own company.

  1.      How are you connected to Global Discovery?

My company, Pure!, became the local agent of Shoestring with Hans and Rob and had a wish to be a partner in the local DMC’s as well. So, we partnered in Peru and Ecuador. Then Global Discovery started and it was such a logical step to join. We were part of the GD from the very beginning.

  1.      In which countries do you operate and what are your strengths?

Pure! Travel Group has offices in Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. We also own and operate the Cotococha Amazon Lodge and the Villa Nancy B&B. We are a company that works 100% B2B and are really focused on ‘Conscious Tourism.’ It’s all in the name: Pure!.

All our staff is locals and we recruit local expert managers. Our knowledge of the countries is very broad and we deliver services with amazing price/quality. We are an all around DMC creating life-enriching experiences for our travelers and deliver a great amount of service and communication to our clients.

  1.      What do you think are the advantages of being a GD member?

The marketing platform is interesting and this should enable us to start doing some cross selling between GD partners. It’s also very nice to be able to ask certain delicate things to other DMC’s worldwide and see how some issues are being solved in different parts of the world.

  1.      Have you visited any of the Khiri Travel countries and what do you think of our region?

Not yet; we were planning to do Thailand last July, but had to change our plans. I believe your region is very attractive due to its culture, nature and price! Asia is a big competitor for South America as flight and local service prices are so much lower in Asia.

  1.      Will you be attending WTM London ’14?

Yes, we will be attending with three different stands at the official country booths of Ecuador, Peru and Colombia.
