Save Your Batteries for ‘Earth Week’

On 25th April 2014, Khiri Travel Thailand celebrated the ‘Earth Week’ by visiting the International School Bangkok (ISB) where activities to promote environmental awareness were held by the students.

Every year on April 22, over a billion people in 190 countries take action for Earth Day on behalf of the environment. This year, we joined the global effort by providing a place for Khiri Travel Thailand’s employees to safely drop off unwanted electronics, as well as hazardous household wastes.

In recognition of Earth Week, on April 25th we took the collected electronics and hazardous waste to the drop-off point located at the ISB. The collected items such as batteries, computer mice, keyboards, USB hubs etc. were properly discarded for safe removal and the recycling process.

As part of Khiri Travel’s ongoing effort in improving our environmental performance as a responsible tourism organization, we have been practicing waste sorting in our company. However, getting rid of hazardous and electronic waste proved to be a challenge in Thailand. Unfortunately there aren’t many facilities to collect and discharge these wastes from local residents, yet.

“By the practice of waste sorting already in the office and finding a suitable place to drop off these unwanted electronics, we hope that we could help promote environmental responsibility – not only in the workplace, but also to our staff’s homes and people around them” said Graham Read, Khiri Group’s Sustainability and Responsible Tourism Manager.
