Myanmar Staff Make a Difference for Mental Health Facility

Myanmar staff donation trip

Khiri Myanmar staff have a generous tradition to help charity. Each month the Myanmar colleagues set aside an amount of cash from their salaries that they can afford to donate. These small amounts add up to a meaningful donation after only three or four months. An organization such as an orphanage or hospital recommended by one of the staff is selected to receive the donation. Khiri Myanmar is very careful to make sure their hard earned money goes to purchase basic needs such as food, clothing and medicine for very needy people.

The most recent donation was to the Mental Health Hospital Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center. This facility, about one hour away from Yangon, has 1300 patients needing care for serious mental illness as well as for alcohol addiction. The director, Dr. Than Tun, describes the importance of cash donations for such things as providing more nutritious meals to the patients whose families cannot provide support. The simple addition of chicken, pork or beef with rice to the patients instead of just soup mixed with meat or vegetable soup and egg is very special. The recent Khiri donation was also able to provide this hospital with coffee, detergent powder, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Khiri Myanmar is like a family working together to make a difference. They are already planning for the next donation to benefit a shelter for needy children in North Dagon Township.
