Myanmar tours just became infinitely easier to book for your clients. The Myanmar government now allows online application for tourist visas. These eVisas are allowed for flights into Yangon, with Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw airports soon to follow as well as land crossings from Thailand. General Manager, Edwin Briels, explains.

Gone are the times for citizens of 60+ countries to apply for a standard, embassy issued tourist visa to Myanmar. The new eVisa system is up and running since 1 September 2014, and is turning out to be a huge success!

As an agent, you can now skip visa agencies and can simply visit the Myanmar eVisa website to apply for a tourist visa for your clients. Costs are USD 50 per visa, and after five working days a confirmation letter will be sent via email. The eVisa approval letter is valid for 90 days and provides sufficient documentation for tourists to board a plane to Myanmar.

After arrival at Yangon International Airport, the Myanmar tourist visa will be stamped into the passport. The government announced that in the near future Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay International Airports will become eVisa-ready. Furthermore, four land border crossings between Myanmar and Thailand will start accepting eVisas as well, once they are equipped with the respective software.

Although we advise to still allow about two weeks to arrange the new eVisa, it is certainly a lot less hassle now that a tourist visa for Myanmar is as easy as connecting to the internet.
