How to Travel from Thailand to Myanmar

December 2, 2014 by | Filed Under: Adventure Travel, Luxury Tourism, Myanmar, News

Khiri Travel Myanmar facilitates trips to explore the region of Myanmar (Burma) accessible by overland excursions from Thailand. For example, there is a travel route from the Thai border into Myanmar with a stop in Hpa-An, the capital city of Kayin State. This area offers breathtaking scenery and now has a wide range of hotels from basic to more luxurious accommodations. In Hpa-An, travelers can explore Mount Zwekabin, the landmark of Kayin State, or visit some of Myanmar’s most impressive caves.

A trip down south to the city of Mawlamyine, the capital of Mon State, will add excitement to this journey. There is a boat ride down the Thanlwin River connecting these two border states. Mawlamyine is the home of the largest reclining Buddha, a reminder of how deeply rooted the Buddhist belief is in these remote areas of Myanmar.

Guests can also tour the Golden Rock and the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, one of the most revered Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Myanmar. The photo of this giant golden boulder and pagoda perched precariously on its mountain top base is an iconic image in Southeast Asia. Guests can stay one night on top of the mountain that houses Golden Rock before proceeding to Yangon, a city that was formerly a Mon-dominated place.
