Beyond Inle Lake – A Visit to Pa-O Hill Tribes
Southern Shan State is most famous for the natural wonder of Inle Lake. Some hill tribes dwelling around the lake continue to live their lives the same as their ancestors have for many generations.
The Pa-O people, one of the numerous hill tribes of the area, consist of two subgroups: Lowland and Highland Pa-O. Both populations can be identified by their native dress made with sturdy fabric in the dark colors of black and navy blue and the colorful head wraps in bright pink, red or orange worn by the women. They cultivate tea on the hillsides and raise a few other agricultural products to make a living. Khiri Travel Myanmar offers a full day trekking tour to visit Pa-O tribes near Inle-Lake to show travelers their way of life.
