TAP into Reducing Plastic Waste in Sri Lanka

March 12, 2015 by | Filed Under: News, Our People, Responsible Tourism, Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka we have decided to be a part of a fantastic responsible tourism initiative called TAP (Travelers Against Plastic) to reduce the totally unnecessary plastic waste from buying single use drinking water bottles. Spearheaded by Khiri Travel’s branch manager, Gonzalo Gil Lavedra, “This is just a small and easy thing to do, but we believe it sets a good example.”

The Sri Lanka office team is now providing water to customers using reusable aluminum water bottles for all their tours. These individual containers will be refilled as needed with filtered drinking water and ice from a large container in the trunk of every car. Useful throughout the trip, each customer can take one home as a reusable souvenir. Gonzalo adds, “We are able to reduce plastic waste and it’s even more cost effective than buying new bottles everyday.”

The reusable aluminum bottles can be agent branded as well, a free service Khiri Travel is happy to provide if travel agents provide an image of their logo.
