Please tell us a bit about yourself?

My full name is Mr. Sonethavee Khamheaungxay but my nickname is Sone. I speak English, Lao and Thai. I am 30 and came from Bolikhamxay Province of Laos near the Vietnamese border until I moved to Vientiane in 2004 to study. My wife is from Siphandon (4000 Islands) so I took a job with Khiri Travel in Pakse so we could live close to her family. In my free time, family comes first. We visit my wife’s parents often with our little daughter. I also like to take my family for a picnic near the river with friends and go fishing. I enjoy staying close to nature.

What is your job with Khiri Travel and what inspired you to choose this kind of work?

I am the Operations and Customer Service Supervisor for Khiri Travel Laos. I am responsible for checking out new tours and suppliers and confirming all services with existing suppliers. I also prepare tours, organize border crossings between Laos and Cambodia and take care of clients on their arrival. Prior to their arrival, I brief the guides and drivers about the clients and help if the clients have any extra wishes or requests. It’s all part of providing an excellent customer experience for clients in southern Laos. I enjoy the teamwork with my colleagues in Vientiane and Luang Prabang.

I began working for Khiri Travel in 2008, almost eight years ago. I love Khiri like my family. The teamwork is good and I enjoy serving our customers. I enjoy meeting so many different people from all over the world and always feel very happy when we get good feedback from our clients. Khiri Laos also has a great reputation in Laos with our suppliers because we are very flexible and understand the needs of their staffers.

What are special things for you in Laos such as favorite foods and places to visit?

I like local foods such as bamboo soup, which is my absolute favorite. I love anything spicy. If the food is not spicy, I always add some extra chilies!

I love to explore the Bolaven Plateau near Pakse. I have been there so many times but I love to go back. After only half an hours drive I can already feel the weather changing because it’s so much cooler on the plateau than down in the city. The Bolaven Plateau has beautiful waterfalls and delicious coffee.

How would you describe Khiri Travel’s clients and what do you do to manage and exceed their expectations?

Each of our clients are different. Most of them are Europeans. Some are more relaxed and some are very specific in what they want. But when travelers come to Laos they are generally very easy going. In Laos, people tend to do things in a relaxed way!

I want all of my clients to be happy with what they have paid for so I try to meet and exceed their expectations. At Khiri, we make the clients our central focus so we need good teamwork and communication between our three Lao offices. We make sure the information about the clients and what they expect is clear. This means checking and reconfirming all the details with our suppliers to make sure they are prepared for the client’s expectations. I want them to enjoy my country, meet Lao people, eat Lao food and enjoy their traveling and the beautiful nature of Laos.
