Hanoi Pagodas & Woodblocks
A few of the oldest and most revered temples by Vietnamese people can be found around Hanoi. Temple grounds are considered holy Buddhist sites, where since ancient days local people have come to worship not only Buddha, but also several female protectors including Lady Dau — known as Black Lady, which you understand after you’ve seen her wooden statue. A huge wooden prayer wheel is one of highlights of the beautiful pagodas in this region. We are granted access to the exceptional library of a Zen Buddhist temple: the treasury of unique pieces of woodblocks with carvings of the old Chu-Nom language. Today the woodblocks are classified as UNESCO cultural heritage.
