We like the Rim Hotel in Chiang Mai. It has a lot of old Lanna charm about it, not least because it is located in the Old City. The Old City is the historic quarter of Chiang Mai surrounded by ramparts and moats.

It was constructed in the reign of King Mengrai. There are five gates around the city. The Rim Hotel is at the Pratu Suan Dok Gate, only a few minutes from Chiang Mai airport. The hotel is very well placed for visits to local temples, museums, historical landmarks, the weekend market, assorted ‘walking streets’, the foothills of Doi Suthep, and Chiang Mai zoo.

The new property is styled as an old Lanna house. The guest welcome lounge is surrounded by swimming pool, restaurant, bars, tropical garden and 36 luxurious guest rooms in three buildings named after northern flowers “Chaba, Dahla and  Monta”. The Lanna design emphasizes northern Thai landscape, local arts and handicrafts. The Rim Hotel is a good three-star base from which to explore the historical part of Chiang Mai city.
