Dancing Elephant Festival in Kyaukse

Dancing Elephant Festival in Kyaukse

On October 29th and 30th head to Kyaukse (about a 3 hour drive from both Bagan and Mandalay) for the Dancing Elephant Festival.

Kyaukse is famous for its big paper-mâché elephant costumes, and during the festival 2 men wearing the elephant costumes dance around the streets of Kyaukse to the sound of dobat and  drums.

A great way to experience village life in Myanmar and take part in a happy ceremony – plus it’s cruelty free: there are no real elephants involved in the festival.
