A few weeks ago, in late April, the UNESCO World Heritage City of Luang Prabang hosted the 2nd annual Luang Prabang Laos Open at the Luang Prabang Golf Club. A total prize purse of USD 80,000 drew players from all over Asia, including Laos’ number one golf professional, Daliya Saidara.
It was the 2nd Lao Open and was part of the ASEAN PGA Tour. The new tournament is indicative of the growing popularity of golf in Laos and the region.
In the end, the lowest score of 279 (9 under par) went to 25-year-old Namchok Tantipokhakul of Thailand. The purse for winning this event totaled USD 16,250.
The ASEAN PGA Tour continues in Hua Hin, Bali, Malaysia, and India. The exact dates for the Luang Prabang Lao Open 2014 will be announced soon.
