Cha-am, Hua Hin, Pranburi: A Special Khiri Travel Inspection Report
Three hours’ drive southwest of Bangkok, Hua Hin is rightly acclaimed as an increasingly diverse, high quality seaside retreat with royal connections. For our clients it is often the perfect beach extension after an exhilarating tour around Thailand. But there’s more than just beaches to this part of Thailand. A special report based on a Khiri Travel Thailand office inspection in late May 2013 reveals the latest options and opportunities presented by Hua Hin, Cha-am and Pranburi.
The last few years have seen considerable development when it comes to tourist attractions in and around Hua Hin. Khiri Travel Thailand inspected new hotels and revisited well-known oldies. All in all it was a very rewarding trip. It reminded us that there are many high quality activities to enjoy — and fantastic places to stay. And we haven’t even mentioned the wining and dining opportunities….
Classic elements of any itinerary should be the monkey temple at Sam Roi Yot National Park, the restored 1920’s Maruekhathayawan Palace, and the Hua Hin Railway Station. Khiri Travel Thailand dug deeper in order to offer clients an even more rewarding experience.
Cicada Market? Yummy!
Besides the well-known night market nearby the historic Hua Hin railway station, there is also the Cicada Market (Community of Identity Culture Art and Dynamic Activities) in Khao Takieb. It consists of an artists’ market, good food, refreshing drinks and plenty of shopping. The market takes place every weekend (4-11pm on Fridays and Saturdays; 4-10pm on Sundays).
A brand new tourist attraction has opened in Hua Hin that allows visitors to soar 100 meters above the countryside in a tethered balloon. The Magic Balloon Park can be found in Hin Lek Fai sub-district, a 15-minute drive to the west of Hua Hin city.
Most visitors would never expect to bump into a Greek village near Cha-Am, but that’s exactly what Santorini Park is! It’s got all the details right, from classic whitewashed buildings and colorfully painted windows, down to stone-paved paths and domed towers. An impressive line-up of shops and restaurants, and an amusement park promise good times for the young and old alike. The park is divided into five pleasing entertainment zones.
Very popular in Hua Hin is Plearnwan, a wooden building and market complex recreated in the style of 1920s to 1950s. Here you can experience the lifestyles from yesteryear. Plearnwan consists of a two-storey courtyard-style building and houses a community of regency period shops. Locals sell everything from liquor and inexpensive toys to boran snacks and handmade postcards. The premises house a beauty salon, photo studio, outdoor cinema, and accommodation in a retro classic house.
High on Wine
How about some wine tasting? Hua Hin Hills Vineyard is built on a former elephant corral, a place where elephants were to be trained for forest work. The location is good for wine production because the terrain of loamy-sand and slate and the constant ocean breeze allow international grape cultivation to take place. The vineyard produces the award-winning Monsoon Valley Wines. Clients can visit for a tour and wine tasting.
Two of the more intriguing properties our team visited were the Marrakesh Hua Hin Resort & Spa and the Hotel de la Paix Cha-Am Beach.
Hotel de la Paix Cha-Am Beach (5 star) was designed by visionary architect and designer Duangrit Bunnag as a contemporary Thai icon. The hotel is set in a lush garden that extends towards the beach. The resort is impressive. Guest rooms are stunning and the restaurant offers superb food.
The beach-facing Marrakesh Hua Hin Resort & Spa (5 star) is not surprisingly designed in a kind of neo-Moroccan style with Moroccan design features throughout the property. Guest rooms are large and the mosaic-tiled bathrooms eye catching.
Khiri Travel Thailand also has reports available of the Cera Resort and Cher Resort in Cha-am, the Anantara Hua Hin Resort & Spa, Ban Bayan, Capa Nidra Hotel, Chom View Hotel, Amari Hua Hin, Putahracsa, Let’s Sea Hua Hin Al Fresco Resort, and Baan Duan Kaew Resort in Hua Hin. Reports of Pranburi accommodation are available for Aleenta Resort & Spa and Evason.
