The Ultimate Three-Country Khmer Temple Trail

Discover the once vast Khmer empire, spanning most of modern-day Southeast Asia, on this unique experience into Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. The tour initially takes 13 days, but there are plenty of possibilities to extend (or shorten) the itinerary.

In Thailand we explore Bangkok with its Wat Pho and Wat Arun temples. We proceed to the temples of Ayutthaya to discover the ancient Khmer architectural influences, and reach Khorat (Nakorn Ratchasima). Here we visit Prasat Phanom Wan, 350-year-old Sai-ngam banyan trees, and Phimai Historical Park, the latter being the last remaining part of a Khmer highway that led all the way to Angkor. We travel Thailand’s Isan provinces, which once were a thriving part of the Khmer empire. We visit relics like Phanom Rung, Prasat Muang Tam and Prasat Sikhoraphum, plus a kiln site and a village known for its silk weaving that originated from ethnic Khmer people. We visit more historic sights such as Prasat Kamphaeng Yai on our way to Laos.

Across the border we will take clients to see the Khmer temple of Wat Phou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple offers stunning views over the surrounding land and represents the easternmost border of the Khmer empire. Travel through the Lao countryside past villages, temples and farmland, and notice how the air gets cooler as you ascend to higher altitudes. We visit a coffee plantation to learn the art of coffee growing and roasting and continue on to Tad Fane for a glimpse of the huge twin waterfalls that plunge 200 meters down a gorge. We then bring your clients to Pakse for onward flights to Siem Reap for more temple exploration.

990 Siem Reap-ANGKOR WAT

In Siem Reap we spend an afternoon exploring the largest and most majestic of Khmer temples: Angkor Wat. Catch a bird’s-eye-view from the top of Bakheng Hill and start early the next day to see a spectacular sunrise over Angkor. We spend a full day exploring Bayon, Ta Phrom, Angkor Thom and other temples and monuments.

On our last day we travel out of town to explore the more unusual ruins of Beang Melea and Bantey Srei. Vegetation has clawed these temples back to the jungle making them exceptionally spectacular to look at. Clients will end their trip with a dramatic sunset from the less visited Pre Rub or Prasat Chrung temples.
