Tea Drinking in Cambodia is both Common and Ritual
Hot or iced, Cambodian culture is intertwined with the history and practice of tea drinking.
Tea drinking is common in all of Southeast Asia. In Cambodia, there is evidence that tea was introduced during the Angkorian period when envoys from China visited the rulers of the Khmer Empire. A special tea ceremony is still part of a traditional Cambodian wedding when the bride and groom offer a ritual cup of tea to the spirit of their ancestors.

The most popular and common type is the Jasmine tea your travelers will see being consumed at every table in a local restaurant. This tea is mild tasting and free flowing so it is a good accompaniment to any meal. Due to the hot climate, however, tea is usually served poured over a glass of ice. Lemongrass tea is also a popular brew in Cambodia. It usually consists of a mixture of ground lemongrass, limes, coriander leaves and a black tea bag steeped in boiling water. It is healthy and very aromatic!
