Best of Bali: Trekking atop Batur Volcano
We hike to the summit of an active volcano at Mount Batur. Located in northern Bali, Khiri’s local guide will collect all guests from their accommodation before dawn and drive to the starting point of the trek inside a giant caldera containing a crater lake.
At first the ascent is quite steep to reach the crater rim. After one to two hours hiking, the reward is a beautiful panorama illuminated by the rising sun. Enjoy some hot coffee or tea and bask in the morning sunshine. The guide will then lead us to follow the undulating path along the rim. The views are truly terrific: on the right is Bali’s largest crater lake framed by Mount Batur and Bali’s highest volcano, the massive Mount Agung. On your left are fantastic views of the sea towards the east to Lombok Island’s imposing Mount Rinjani. Along the way we will see lava, black sands and steaming vents.
After a few hours we descend to the lake and cross by boat to the village of Toyabungkah. There is a natural volcanic hot spring in which to bathe or swim. After a satisfying lunch of sandwiches, nasi goring, sate and grilled fish, travelers are returned to their original destination.
