The great historian and British Burma expert, J. S. Furnivall, once interpreted markets in Myanmar as places where all the individual ethnic groups of Myanmar “meet, but only in the market place, in buying and selling.” Indeed, local markets paint a picture of this multi-ethnic society that is Myanmar.

In the morning at the fish market in Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar
