Hybrid Vehicles for Increased Sustainability in Sri Lanka

At Khiri Travel Sri Lanka, we’re using the iconic Toyota Prius, a hybrid electric mid-size hatchback, for our fleet of transport vehicles. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) rate the Prius as among the cleanest vehicles based on its high ratings for reduced smog-forming emissions.

We are using hybrid vehicles at Khiri Travel Sri Lanka because, living on an island, we’re very aware of the impact of global warming, and strive to be a market leader in demonstrating a commitment to environmental sustainability. Fuel economy means cost savings and a reduced carbon footprint. There really isn’t any reason that we shouldn’t all be converting to hybrid cars!

We want to set a good example to help initiate change in the travel industry. The Prius’ smaller size means we can only use them for 2-3 pax groups so their size is not ideal. Hybrid vans are not available yet, but we are first in line as soon as they’re developed and on the market. Also, the chauffeurs who drive hybrid cars get priority in bookings. We have a fleet of 33+ hybrid cars of our own, and also have an extensive list of freelance driver guides.

We tour the hybrid cars all across the island for our holiday trips and experiences. Sri Lanka is a relatively small island so driving between destinations is very doable in addition to the transport needs of airport arrivals and departures.

Besides the environmental benefits of using a hybrid car, they’re also incredibly modern and comfortable.
