After previously available visa-on-arrival services for tourists were halted earlier this year, Myanmar successfully introduced a new online electronic visa system on 1 September. This new service makes obtaining a tourist visa to Myanmar, valid for 28 days, a very easy task. Your Myanmar bound clients do not need to go or send their visa application forms to a Myanmar embassy.

The link for this new service is and is http://evisa.moip.gov.mm/ and is quite easy to navigate. At this moment citizens of 43 countries can qualify for the online visa. More and more countries will be added to the list in the near future. Also, your travelers who make their international entry point to Myanmar at anywhere other than Yangon International Airport, such as Mandalay, do not qualify for this electronic visa. Other airport entries require a standard visa to be issued by a Myanmar embassy prior to arrival. Again, more airports will be added to the electronic system soon.

Payment is made through the website and requires a credit card. Currently, the cost for a tourist visa is 50 USD. Applications take at least five working days to be processed after the initial online request for the e-visa. An E-visa Approval Letter will be sent electronically to the applicant at the end of the process and entitles them to board a plane to Myanmar and upon arrival, proceed directly to Immigration at Yangon International Airport. The approval letter is valid for 3 months. Recent news indicates the number of visitors has sharply increased since the inception of the e-visa.
