Where can we find this hotel?

The Riva Surya is a small, 4-star boutique hotel with a cosy restaurant overlooking the Chao Phraya River in the Banglumpoo District of Bangkok.

What are the surroundings like?

This property is ideally located very close to the Grand Palace and only a short walk to Bangkok’s famous nightlife venue, Khao San Road. It is a perfect location for young people; in fact, it would make a nice place for a couple on their honeymoon.

What are alternative options to this hotel?

The Navalai Hotel located in the same area along the Chao Phraya riverside is very comparable.

Why do we like it?

This hotel is only three kilometers from the central area of restaurants and shops in Luang Prabang in a very quiet and pleasant area. It has impressive views of the river and surrounding mountains especially at sunset. It’s a great place for relaxing.

What are alternative options to this hotel?

The Chanthavinh Resort is another great medium hotel option in Luang Prabang.

 

Rose suites hotel

La Rose Suites, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

What is this hotel like?

The 5-star La Rose Suites in Phnom Penh city center is the sister hotel of the existing 4-star La Rose Hotel. This new property is the same style and décor as the original La Rose, but with larger rooms and it caters to a higher level of service.

Why do we think it’s special?

La Rose Suites is one of the few high-end options in Phnom Penh suitable for 5-star clients. They are well known for their restaurant (a favorite of Khiri Travel Cambodia staff Leap) as well as for their wonderful Spa & Massage.

What are alternative options to this hotel?

The other high-end options are the Raffles Le Royal and the Governer’s House.

 

Gal Oya Lodge

What is it like?

This place is a nine-room luxury wildlife eco-lodge located very close to the Gal Oya National Park in southeastern Sri Lanka. Spread across twenty acres of private forest, it’s the ideal place to live close to nature.

Why do we think it is special?

The lodge is constructed from natural materials that have all been locally sourced. A high value is placed on the ideals of responsible tourism such as use of solar energy, locally sourced organic food, waste recycling and composting. The lodge employs and educates local people and operates a charity through which the lodge’s guests can have an authentic experience meeting the people of the Vedda community.

What can we do in the surroundings?

Nearby is Sri Lanka’s largest lake so guests can enjoy boat safaris, jungle drives, naturalist walks or just relaxing by the pool. The national park is famous for wildlife that is best seen from a boat, especially the swimming elephants.

 

Amara Ocean

Where can we find this hotel?

This very fine 5-star resort is located on Ngapali Beach in an isolated area north of Thandwe airport in Rakhine State, Myanmar.

Why is it special?

Guests can enjoy the beach and swim in the Indian Ocean in solitude without being disturbed by cars or guests from other hotels. The Amara’s German management obviously has a keen eye for details resulting in each room and bungalow to be architecturally interesting.

This small luxury resort is located in the town of Khanom in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province of southern Thailand only one hours drive from Surat Thani, the gateway to Koh Samui.

What’s it like?

Khanom is one of those treasures waiting to be discovered. There are long empty beaches lined with palm trees, and amazing seafood everywhere. This tranquil beach feels like Koh Samui did thirty years ago before it was discovered by the world.

The Amra Angkor is a new property that just opened a few weeks ago. The hotel’s 37 chalet style rooms are located in a quiet area. There is a nice pool set in a private courtyard.
