Living it Up at a Sri Lankan Wedding
One of the most beautiful traditions in Sri Lankan culture is their fabulously elegant wedding celebration. Travelers are lucky when they have a chance to attend a Sinhalese poruwa; the traditional word for a wedding ceremony.
Since invitations for travelers to such a special family event are rare, Khiri Travel Sri Lanka is happy to create a mock (but still magical) wedding for romantically minded visitors.
The fun of this pretend-wedding celebration starts early in the morning with a luxurious champagne breakfast in a tranquil place on the beach. After a relaxing meal, the wedding party members will be given traditional Sri Lankan costumes in which to dress for the ceremony.
The men will wear richly embroidered short jackets with matching turban-like hats. The ladies will dress in flowing silk saris trimmed with beads. Necklaces, matching jewelry in their hair and some Bollywood make up will complete the look. The bride will be stunning in a white sari while the bridesmaids wear deep jewel tone colors.
The wedding party includes four singing girls whose job it is to chant traditional wedding blessings. The wedding ceremony takes place in a private, decorated location as in Sri Lankan custom. This eventful day concludes with a candlelight seafood dinner on the beach. The butler grills fresh lobster right beside the table and serves a wedding feast that will make your clients feel like royalty.
