Family Fun in Vientiane
Inpeng Water Park, or Inpeng Culture & Entertainment Park, as it is also known, is a great new family-oriented attraction that sits on the river only a short stroll from the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. This huge park has a selection of beer gardens, restaurants, cafes and even a museum. It is also home to the former National Ethnic Culture Park with sculptures of Laotian heroes. However, the highlight of the park is definitely its fun selection of pools of different shapes and sizes, some of which are dedicated to infants and younger children. The park’s main pool, which faces on to the river also has a selection of fun water chutes – a big hit with younger members of the family!
Restaurants in the park are also carefully situated around the pools, allowing visitors to enjoy meals, while watching over their children. Food is mostly Laotian, but there are also a few international restaurants. With the growing demand for leisure attractions in Laos, plans are already afoot to build a new hotel at the park and to offer a river cruise service.
Inpeng Water Park is also situated close by to Buddha Park, a few kilometres further down river. Inspired by a renegade monk who formed his own sect, this park contains a collection of magnificent and eerie concrete statues, based on Hindu, Buddhist and Brahman iconography. Each statue tells a story or moral fable. It’s a surreal place full of interesting photo opportunities!
Khiri Travel Laos offers a fun day out for all the family to these two destinations. The tour begins in the morning with a trip to Buddha Park to admire the impressive selection of statues and sculptures, followed by an afternoon of fun at Inpeng Water Park. It’s an excellent one-day tour program, just half an hour from Vientiane.
