In preparation of the 2015 Myanmar Elections, every week we speak to a citizen of Myanmar about the impact tourism has (had) on their daily life. We speak to our guide and partner Mr. Min Min about the benefits tourism has brought him and his family.

Mr. Min-Min - Bagan - Myanmar - Elections

Nowadays we have many tourists visiting our region all year round. So our people have a better life than before. I also have the chance to send my children to a private school for good education.

Mingalarbar! (Welcome)

My name is Min Min. I was born in old Bagan. Tourism in Myanmar only became popular three years ago when more tourists came to my region. Previously it was very difficult to depend solely on tourism because not many tourists visited in the low season. People had to find additional jobs to earn a living during the green season. I used to work in an ice factory during the low season. Not because I liked it, but simply because it was the only way to make enough money for my family at that time.

Nowadays we have many tourists visiting our region all year round. So our people have a better life than before. I also have the chance to send my children to a private school for good education. I wish that more tourists will come to my country in future.
