Ock Pop Tock Living Crafts Center, Luang Prabang, Laos
This unique accommodation on the outskirts of the World Heritage town allows guests to explore their passion for Lao ethnic textile arts. Located just far enough from the town center to beat the crowds, Ock Pop Tock (say this 5 times fast!) has only four, artfully decorated guestrooms that await clients who are looking to immerse themselves in the craft center workshops or classes. During their stay, guests are able to learn all about Lao silk production, natural dyes and weaving.
The crafts center also has the Silk Road Café, which offers great coffee and tea specialties for short breaks, or full breakfast or lunch options. One of their special teas is made from tasty and harmless silkworm poop! There is also a retail store that exhibits and sells beautiful woven goods and other unique textile art items.
Two alternative options in Luang Prabang are Cold River, a stylish, rejuvenated boutique hotel in the city center and Villa Saykham, a classic French colonial boutique accommodation with great service and a great price.
