Nestled in the misty Knuckles Mountain Range of central Sri Lanka is Santani Wellness Resort & Spa, a place of minimalist luxury, serenity and relaxation. Situated on a 48-acre site everything about the resort from its design to its expert staff is focused on providing guests with a unique experience of wellness and rejuvenation.

Sri Lanka - wellness - spa

Santani Wellness Resort & Spa is the concept of Vickum Nawagamuwage, an entrepreneur who grew up in Sri Lanka before moving to the US to pursue his studies. With an MBA from Harvard Business School, followed by a successful career in global strategy consulting, Vickum moved back to Sri Lanka and co-founded Santani.

A novel venture catering to the rapidly growing wellness tourism sector, Santani seeks to provide an atmosphere of peaceful harmony for relaxation and revitalization. The ideology that sustainability begins with us humans is at the core of Santani’s concept. Wellness packages are tailored to meet the needs of each individual guest using both Ayurvedic and western concepts of treatment. Each guest begins their wellness journey with a health assessment by an Ayurvedic doctor and wellness concierge. They are then guided through the whole process to ensure their goals are achieved.

The resort also offers a range of outdoor activities including a 1,200 sq. ft. pavilion with an ideal space for yoga, Pilates and cardio. There is also the option to swim in the outdoor infinity lap pool overlooking the striking mountain scenery or bathe in the nearby river. Other activities include meditation, nature walks, mountain biking and hiking. As part of the wellness regime, there are three main food categories that make up the nourishing menus at Santani. These include a personalized detoxing and raw food menu, a vegetarian menu and a full option menu.

Santani’s minimalist design concept incorporates the careful use of space, providing a soothing environment that allows guests to focus on their wellness goals. The unique architecture has also been designed with energy efficiency in mind. Located in the cool hills, the resort does not require air conditioning and therefore saves on energy use. Almost 90 percent of the furniture and woodwork at Santani is created from reclaimed wood, including a whole timber deck salvaged from a demolished 100-year-old tea factory.

With a multinational and multidisciplinary staff, Santani ensures that each guest receives a high standard of service. Key staff include the General Manager, the Executive Chef and the Head of Wellness, all of whom are distinguished international professionals in their fields of expertise.
