Day 2:

Yogyakarta

Meals: B L

Get an early start to reach the famed Borobudur before the masses arrive and while the morning light is still gentle. Borobudur is the world’s largest Buddhist monument and the largest man-made structure in the southern hemisphere. It predates Angkor Wat by 300 years and Notre Dame by 200 years. “Rediscovered” in 1815, it has been excavated and returned to its (almost) original glory. The stone relief panels offer a clear glimpse into Buddhist doctrine and Javanese life 1,000 years ago. Find a quiet spot to witness the sun’s slow ascent to brighten the whole area.

Afterwards, you will join a cycling trip to a Javanese Village. Away from the busy traffic and the pollution of the city you discover traditional Javanese life. Cycling through the sugarcane- and rice fields, you will enjoy the picturesque, rural scenery. In the villages you pass through, daily life persists as it has for centuries. Your cycling guide will give you detailed explanations of the people and areas you’ll visit. A chance to connect with people beyond the tourist attractions!

Day 3:

Yogyakarta

Meals: B D

Known as the cultural heart of Java, Yogyakarta is also home to a lively student population and burgeoning arts movement. Street Art is everywhere and not only is it a nice way to add some color to the streets, it is also a clever and important way for artists to express social (dis)content through their artwork. Street art is often hidden in plain sight and unfortunately goes unnoticed by the inattentive eye. More reason to join us on an exciting tour with one of Yogya’s best-known street artists, Aldy Setiaji. Hop on a becak and let Aldy show you the different kinds of street art and explain the artist’s message behind their work. You will also visit some art galleries close to Aldy’s heart to get a peak into the lively art-scene of Yogya and the artists involved. Take a break from the streets and enjoy a coffee or tea with some local snacks to round out this unique experience. You will never look at the streets of Yogya in the same way again!

To most travelers Yogyakarta is known as the cultural center of Java, but Yogya also has a lot to offer for the food enthusiast! Let us take you on a Javanese food experience to discover popular treats and hang out with the locals! Start walking from Tugu Monument or hop on a becak (pedicab) to see traditional and modern angkringan (foodstalls) along the way and head to the area famous for kopi joss, coffee with a brick of burning hot charcoal! After this you’re ready to continue by becak to soak up the hustle and bustle of Jalan Malioboro. If you want, you can try the famous mi kadin (stir fried noodles) at the north alun-alun (square). You will then continue to the alun-alun (square) south of the kraton (palace) where you will take the legendary walk through two waringin trees (banyan trees) while blindfolded. Afterwards continue to the Wijilan area to sample various forms of Yogya’s famous dish, gudeg (jackfruit curry). These are just starters, so to wrap up this culinary experience we’ll finish at one of the famous angkringan restaurants popular with students and families alike. Here you can choose from dozens of freshly made dishes cooked up in front of you. Wash it all down with some flavorful and colorful drinks like wedanguwuh (red herbal drink) or wedangjahe (ginger tea) to round out your culinary Yogya experience!

Day 5:

Ubud

Meals: B L D

This morning, you will be met by your guide at 09:00 AM and your day will be spent with some local Balinese artists. In addition to its natural attractions, Bali’s soul and character is defined by its people. The island has long been a magnet for the arts and Ubud, its epicenter.

You’ll have a unique program we have lovingly designed so you can experience A day in the life of a Balinese artist and uncover the secrets behind Bali’s artistic soul. In addition to its natural attractions, Bali’s soul and character is defined by its people.

One of the most remarkable ways of discovering Bali is through its people and the unique art forms the island is known for the world over. Today you’ll interact with local artists at their homes and workshops and have doors opened to a world that is normally hidden from the sight of travelers, a dream chance to meet and photograph interesting local people in their element. The culmination of the day will be a home-cooked lunch in a Balinese compound.

This evening you are in for a special treat and an exclusive insider’s experience. Far from the overcrowded restaurants and noisy bars, an intimate and luxurious encounter awaits you. You will be transferred to the home of Ms. Malaika, a member of the Balinese Royal Family. Here you’ll be hosted for a fabulous dinner likely to be one of the culinary highlights of the entire trip. Malaika has a flamboyant personality and she is not shy in sharing the secrets of Balinese cuisine and her family history. Although Bali still has kings that govern the island, their role is now mostly symbolic as keepers of tradition and ceremonies.

Day 6:

Ubud – Munduk

Meals: B

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the last day at your resort in Ubud. Meet your guide around 10.30 am to drive to your next destination: Munduk.

This morning you’ll convene with your guide and then depart Ubud and drive higher into the remote and mountainous interior of Bali. You’ll make a stop at the shores of Lake Bratan to see one of Bali’s most picturesque temples, Pura Ulun Danu.

Munduk is a typical Balinese village, with its village-temple, busy morning-market and of course its barking dogs late at night. The villagers make their living growing cloves and rice so there are rice-terraces and clove-plantations as far as the eye can see. This area is ideally suited for long and short hikes.

Overnight at Munduk Moding Plantation, Garden Suite

Day 7:

Munduk – Pemuteran

Meals: B

Today you will have a breathtaking activity by walking in the villages of Kayuputi & Munduk. A picturesque adventure where you will have the pleasure of commencing a jungle trek through to the sparkling and mystical Lake Tamblingan which is surrounded by a local fishing village. Your guide will take you across the lake on a handcrafted canoe to visit an ancient holy temple. On return, take a stroll in the village and stop by the Munduk waterfalls.

In the sleepy North Western corner of Bali lies Pemuteran and Menjangan island. With clear waters and few currents it offers some of Indonesia’s best snorkeling. The island and surrounding coral gardens are part of Bali’s only national park: Bali Barat. Here the endangered Bali Sparrow lives. In certain places captured birds are released back in the park.

On the way there you have a chance to take a bath at the sacred hot springs, ‘Air Panas’ of Banjar. They are set in the midst of a forest in a beautifully landscaped tropical garden, the sulphuric water is of volcanic origin and has a warm temperature. We will pass through Dencarik to the neighboring village of Banjar Tegeha, home of the splendid Buddhist Brahma Arama Vihara. This vihara is the residence of Bali’s only Buddhist monk and it plays a central role in Buddhist religious life and education. Opened in 1971, it replaced another one founded in Banjar in 1958. It combines architectural and iconographic elements found throughout the Buddhist world. Quiet, cool, and set high in the hills, it commands a view down to the ocean.

Late afternoon you will arrive at your resort.

How about semur (meat stew), tumis (stir fried vegetables), tahu isi (stuffed tofu), urap urap (spicy salad) or ikan bakar (grilled fish). If you’re lucky you can even make ares, a hard to find coconut curry with the soft inner parts of the banana tree! Maybe you even have the chance to share this meal with the farmers and let them be the judge of your cooking skills! Komodo Islands

Meals: B L

Komodo National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Flores Sea and consists of the three larger islands of Komodo, Rinca and Padar. Because of its unique geology and as a result of volcanic activity, this makes for stunning scenery both above and below water. The islands feature a dramatic, wild savannah landscape with patches of forest, especially on the southern hills of Komodo and Rinca. White and reddish sandy beaches, blue lagoons teeming with fish, and some of the most spectacular underwater scenery in the world entice guests from all around the globe. The underwater topography is as varied as the marine life it protects.

This morning after meeting your guide, enjoy a private excursion to Rinca Island, part of Komodo National Park, by private traditional phinisi boat. During the trip, if interested, you will stop at one of the pristine beaches that are found in these waters for snorkeling (snorkeling gear will be provided).

On the island of Rinca visit the dragons in their natural environment. You will be accompanied by a National Park Ranger. The island is also home to rare birds like megapodo or sulfur cockatoo. After seeing the Komodo dragons we continue sailing to Rinca village.
