New Tented Eco-camp to open in Untouched Wilderness
A NEW tented camp is being opened in southwest Cambodia with the tagline, “Your Stay Keeps the Forest Standing.”
Called the Cardamom Tented Camp, the eco-camp is a three-way initiative between the Minor Group, YAANA Ventures and Wildlife Alliance. A percentage of its revenue will go directly to Wildlife Alliance, while all other profits will be reinvested locally.
Guests staying at the Cardamom Tented Camp will be sustaining a conservation-friendly business that was set up to help keep an 18,000-hectare (180 km2) concession out of the hands of loggers, poachers and sand dredging operations. The tract of land in Botum Sakor National Park is home to lowland and coastal habitats linking wildlife corridors to the Cardamom Mountains.
The Cardamom Tented Camp will be equipped with nine comfortable safari-style tents located inside the park that will minimize the human footprint on nature and promote sustainable tourism.
Khiri Travel Cambodia is offering 3- and 4-day packages with stays at the eco-camp aimed at soft adventure enthusiasts looking to combine overland journeys to Thailand or other parts of Cambodia, with the experience of real conservation work.
Guests will have the opportunity to go on patrol with park rangers and participate in conservation-related activities. Through this unique interaction with the rangers, camp visitors will learn about the local wildlife, nature and external influences threatening the park, such as illegal logging, poaching and habitat destruction.
The eco-camp will also provide exciting opportunities and experiences for naturalists with a strong interest and affinity for nature and wildlife. Educational programs on wildlife, the ecosystem and sustainable practices, will also play a key part in the tour itineraries offered, as well as the overall camp operations.
