The Best Kept Secret of Bali’s Crater Lakes
We love the lakes of Munduk in Bali so much that maybe Khiri Travel Indonesia should keep this program a secret. Yet it’s such a wonderful experience, it has to be shared.
The north of Bali around Munduk is mountain country. A cordillera of volcanic mountains runs in an almost straight line from east to west. This is the domain of Bali’s great volcanoes such as Mount Batakau, Mount Batur and Mount Agung. Massive eruptions in the past resulted in the creation of giant calderas that are filled with water. These crater lakes play an important role in Bali as they provide the life-giving water necessary to sustain agriculture in the valleys and lowlands below.
Now imagine having a chance to explore one of these secluded mountain lakes on a paddle board, gliding along powered by human energy while admiring the unique work of nature. This fun and energetic water activity is the best way to explore the area. Besides, paddleboards have zero carbon emissions and are fun and healthy. The best part is that families can have a go together.
In an age where technology is virtually everywhere, having a day out in nature having fun and offering family-bonding time has become a rare luxury. The fun starts with learning how to stand and paddle in a controlled environment, like a swimming pool, to build up some confidence. These paddle boards may look easy, but it is very helpful to practice first. When travelers are ready, we take to the crater lakes for the real test. There are several locations, but our favorites are Tamblingan Lake near Munduk, and Batur Lake under the watchful gaze of Mt. Batur.
The secret is out. It was too good not to be shared! Next time in Bali, we recommend travelers take a chance to explore nature while paddle boarding. It will be a day of family fun to remember.
