Venturing off Kandy’s Regular Tourism Trail
Shashindri our indefatigable senior account manager has come up with a new program that is taking our activities around Kandy to the next level!
When you travel, you have your list of must-visits, but if you focus too much on the highlights, then you lose out on the real essence of the journey and the enjoyment of the local experience. Take a break from the main tourist attractions, slip on your walking shoes and take a stroll with us into the rural countryside, where your clients can discover the authentic village life around Kandy.
A short drive from the bustling city centre of Kandy, we arrive in small local village where your clients embark on a wondrous walk that connects you to three legendary temples, Embekka Devalaya, Gadaladeniya Vihara and Lankatilaka Vihara, hidden gracefully away in the hills.
The walk begins at Galadaldeniya temple, where your guide will unveil its proud Buddhist heritage that dates back to the reign of King Bhuvanekabahu IV in the 14th century. Next on this beautiful village trail we visit Lankatilaka. During the whole walk we pass through lush, tropical scenery that would not be out of tune with a 19th century print of Ceylon.
All this walking in the tropical climate makes one hungry, so we stop to enjoy a bit of refreshment and local hospitality at a neighborhood home, where your clients can enjoy fresh coconut juice. Nearby, there’s also a small shop where we can grab some home-baked snacks for the road, including lemon puffs and ginger biscuits!
We continue on this rewarding hike, walking across rice fields bordering small villages, and meeting locals working in their gardens – stopping now and gain to discover and appreciate the surrounding nature. Your clients will be pleasantly surprised by the abundance and variety of fruits, vegetables and spices that the guide will point out along the way. And it’s impossible not to notice the eager waves and smiles of locals and their children as they pass by.
There is a lot more to Kandy than just the Temple of the Tooth Relic, so contact our team for more details on how to discover Kandy and the surrounding countryside on foot – perfect for families and anyone who appreciates the local color of a destination, rather than just visiting the regular tourist sites.
