Fox Resorts Jaffna, Sri Lanka
Mahiru Fernando, our sales manager in Sri Lanka, was recently on a trip with his team exploring new places and properties in Jaffna, including the new Fox Resorts Jaffna, a charming colonial-style property in lush, peaceful gardens.
Fox Resorts Jaffna, the new kid on the block, has filled a void in the city – a hotel with character and a story to tell. This was a building that was formerly used by the LTTE as one of its financial hubs. Some of the bunkers have been preserved, like the one which goes from the lobby to the backyard, bearing witness to the darker times of civil war. Things are already underway to convert the bunker into an art gallery, which will add some color to the story!
With a few rooms in the main building, as well as newly constructed villas overlooking the beautifully landscaped garden and poolside area, their design blends in nicely with the atmosphere, and they haven’t forgotten to add a bit of the Jaffna flavor – such as a replica of a yazh, or yarl, a harp used in ancient Tamil music. Rooms are decorated with paintings by local artists adding even more character to this exquisite property. Hotel staff are also attentive and welcoming, adding to the friendly ambience and making this property a great addition to Jaffna’s portfolio of hotels.
Khiri Travel Sri Lanka is the first DMC in the region to work directly with Tamil guides and insiders – opening up the region to adventurous travelers. We always keep in mind the history, culture and traditions of the North without ignoring the country’s civil conflict and troubled past. Travel is about discovery and Jaffna is certainly a special place in Sri Lanka.
