Khiri Travel Announces Bagan to Mrauk U Trek and Boat Adventure in Myanmar

Khiri Travel has introduced trips from Bagan to the ancient kingdom of Mrauk U over the Chin Mountains in northwest Myanmar. The seven-day/six-night journey involves four days trekking (about 20km a day), boat trips, some four-wheel drive transport and basic accommodation and food in remote areas.

The journey links the glories of Bagan with the remnant splendours of Mrauk U, a temple city that was, some say, as powerful as the trading centres of Amsterdam and London.

To keep costs down to a fixed rate US$1295 per person (twin sharing), Khiri Myanmar has announced three guaranteed trip dates: 30 October to 5 November 2016; 27 November to 3 December 2016; and 1-7 January 2017.

“Last season, Khiri was the first to organise treks from Bagan to Mrauk U,” says Edwin Briels, General Manager of Khiri Myanmar. “These were fantastic experiences through beautiful scenery and remote villages where many Chin women still have traditionally tattooed faces. The journey ends with a wonderful one-and-a-half day boat trip to Mrauk U. It’s a different world.”

Along the way, Khiri Travel guests get to swim in the famous seven-steps waterfall near Matupi, eat mohinga noodles in local markets, ascend Mt Victoria (3053m), wend along trails through forest and rice paddy, explore traditional Chin villages (one with a church), sail over rapids on the Lay Mro river, and sleep in local homes or guest houses.

Group sizes in each trip will be capped at 7 maximum.
