Myanmar Elected: Mr. Han Htun Win ‘Jonathan’

September 11, 2015 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: , , ,

In preparation of the 2015 Myanmar Elections, every week we speak to a citizen of Myanmar about the impact tourism has (had) on their daily life. Our travel guide Jonathan from Kyaukme foresees a bright future for Myanmar.

Myanmar - Elections

If I look back into the grim, hopeless pages of my past I can see me sitting in a chair doing nothing, as there weren’t many jobs in my area.

My name is Jonathan, from Kyaukme (Northern Shan State). I am so happy that guiding has become my profession. It makes my family proud. I feel so excited and enjoy whenever clients have questions about my country.

I have been interested in speaking English since I was young. This work would be tiring if I had no passion. Being a guide has improved my knowledge and opened many doors. If I look back into the grim, hopeless pages of my past I can see me sitting in a chair doing nothing, as there weren’t many jobs in my area.

All the tourists visiting benefit not only me, but also the people around me as everybody in my community is eager to learn English. They realize that it’s the only way to see the world. I hope that more tourists will come in the future.
