5 Days Far Flung Mekong Delta Immersion

September 17, 2019 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: ,

Get off the beaten track away from the tourist sites in the deep south of Vietnam, exploring the country’s exotic Mekong Delta region.

Less visited places of the Mekong Delta itinerary:

Ho Chi Minh City – Ben Tre – Cho Lach – Can Tho – Soc Trang – Can Tho – Ho Chi Minh City

Day 1 | Ho Chi Minh City – Ben Tre – Cho Lach

Head towards Hùng vương Pier (Bến Tre town). You will take a boat ride to Cái Cối, a small canal. Then you will change to a rowing boat and you will visit a village where you will take a short walk to a farmhouse to take part of a local ceremony. You can take pictures of the colorful items that are worshiped at the altar and share with guests and relatives, taking part in the ceremony. Our lunch will take place in a local farmhouse.

In the afternoon, we take a bike and pass by a coconut jungle. You will stop at a rice paper cake and a coconut candy workshop. You will then continue on to a farmhouse to experience the local mat weaving. Today we also visit a coconut processing workshop and handy brick workshop, before returning back to the pier by boat. In the afternoon, you will be taken to Cho Lach for the homestay where you can enjoy a dinner with a local family.

Day 2 | Cho Lach – Can Tho

After breakfast, enjoy a bicycle ride in the countryside and visit the local market of Cho Lach, where you will discover a fruit garden and you will meet a local arborist. He will explain to you his work and his daily life. For lunch we visit a local house with homemade meals. In the afternoon we will head towards Can Tho, where you will check in at your hotel.

Day 3 | Can Tho – Soc Trang

After breakfast, we will take you to Soc Trang, where Vietnamese, Khmer and Chinese communities live together. We visit the village market and the Kh’leang pagoda with a beautiful gold painted pillar. The walls and the ceiling are richly painted with scenes describing the life of Buddha. In the afternoon you will have the chance to discover the Bat pagoda and four faces Buddha pagoda near handicraft villages (painting on glass) and colonial houses. For dinner we’ll enjoy the local specialty minced beef cooked on a tile.

Day 4 | Soc Trang – Can Tho

Today we visit Nga Nam floating market. On the way you can visit the funeral house, Chen Kieu pagoda, partially made of ceramic and you can also take a look at the local life along the river. To enjoy most of the floating market, we’ll take a traditional Delta boat. We will later drive back to Can Tho, where you will check in at your hotel and enjoy your free time to relax.

Day 5 | Can Tho – Ho Chi Minh City

Can Tho hides the Binh Thuy ancient residence. It’s a very beautiful and typical southern delta house and certainly worth the visit today. The ancient house has five apartments, two roofs and a French architectural style, built in 1870 by a family named Duong. From Can Tho in the Mekong Delta we head back to Ho Chi Minh City (to others known as Saigon).
