A Better Way to Travel to Ngapali Beach

January 3, 2018 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: ,

Discover a wonderful corner of Myanmar with Khiri Travel’s overland program to Ngapali Beach on the remote west coast, where guests can explore the villages and nature while staying in a beautiful eco lodge.

Arakan Nature Lodge

Ngapali is a dream. It’s a picture perfect beach on Myanmar’s west coast with crystal clear water, white sand beaches and palm trees. A short flight used to be the only viable way to get to Ngapali Beach from Yangon. However, now that the Arakan Nature Lodge has opened, a lovely overland experience now is possible. Indeed, Khiri Travel Myanmar has introduced a two-day overland program to Ngapali Beach. The trip includes two great walks through villages and nature.

A few days in the Arakan Nature Lodge, which is itself on a remote beach, is the perfect way to break the journey and discover a wonderful corner of Myanmar. The area includes the Rakhine Yoma Elephant Range, a wildlife reserve that is home to wild elephants, sun bears, gibbons, pangolins, hornbills, gaurs, wild cats, deer and turtles. The area is not easy to enter, as there are no roads or villages in the heart of the forest. However, around the edges of the park there are excellent opportunities for walks through nature accompanied by rangers or local farmers.

A part of the first day is spent with rangers of the Wildlife Conservation Society, an organization dedicated to nature conservation throughout Myanmar. The second day includes five hours of walking accompanied by a local farmer who knows the area well. Part of the area is still used by livestock breeders known as the “Rakhine cowboys”. They form groups of drovers to bring their cattle across the Rakhine Mountains to the heart of Myanmar.

Alternatively, guests can choose to stay an extra night at the Arakan Nature lodge, which is built with passion and patience in an eco-friendly way from the reclaimed timber of local villages. Each bungalow has a view over the beach and is a traditional Rakhine house with terrace and an outdoor shower area.
