A visit to Mondulkiri Province, Cambodia

August 27, 2009 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: , ,

Last week, Linda Oum, the intrepid Operations Manager of Khiri Travel Cambodia, visited the remote province of Mondulkiri, in Northeast Cambodia. As it is the middle of the rainy season, getting there wasn’t a too easy affair. The province however is covered in lush tropical forest and a great place for bird watching. Linda was in the company of experienced bird watchers of the Sam Veasna Center for Wildlife Conservation and spotted Thick-billed Green Pigeon, Shikra, Lesser Coucal, Indian Roller and Blue-eared Barbet, amongst more.

The local trekking guides were from the Phong minority. Sam Veasna is involved in a project educating the Phong to protect endangered wildlife and make money by guiding tourists. Khiri Travel offers a number of programs in cooperation with Sam Veasna Center. Interested travelers need to prepare for bad roads and primitive overnights.
