Bicycles and Beer – A Refreshing Way to Explore

December 27, 2011 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: , ,

This is the day tour with a difference. We explore quiet country roads around Phnom Penh, have a great lunch and then visit a brewery. At 07:30 am Khiri Travel will pick you up your hotel by tuk tuk and transfer to the start of the bicycle ride. The distance is approximately 25km on mainly flat tracks and small roads. Bring camera, sunscreen and comfortable clothing. We cross the river by boat and take in this relaxing ride through Cham Muslim communities on quiet back roads to reach Mekong river islands. Once on the islands, we cycle through orchards and market gardens. Enjoy the peaceful farmlands and learn about the lives of the people who live here. We return to Phnom Penh hungry and thirsty around 12:30pm.

A great lunch awaits us at Friends restaurant, which provides underprivileged street children with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the hospitality business. All profits are reinvested into its training centre activities.

Kingdom-Brewery

After lunch our driver takes us to Kingdom brewery. Kingdom is an independent brewery 15 km from the heart of Phnom Penh. You will be given a guided tour around the brewery. Inside the brewery we learn about the machinery and the processes that go in to producing the beer. You will also learn about the challenges of producing a premium beer in a developing country. After the tour we continue to the exclusive lounge bar overlooking Tonle Sap, where you will be given the opportunity try some cold Kingdom beer. You will also receive a krama – the traditional style Cambodian scarf as a memento.

After the tour (and a well-deserved beer or two), your driver will take you back to your hotel.
