Spotlight On: Our New Manager in Cambodia Is Loving His New Lifestyle
What do you do for Khiri Travel?
I am the Country Manager for Cambodia and as such have my hands in every aspect of our business including product, operations, sales, accounts and HR. There is never a dull moment. Sometimes I even help make lunch!
How long have you worked for Khiri Travel and what do you like about the company?
I have been with Khiri since August 2015. I love that Khiri Travel is fun, challenging, dynamic and full of supportive colleagues who are just as passionate about the industry and region as I am.
What inspired you to do this kind of work?
In 1998 I went to Thailand, Nepal and Tibet with my dad. I also studied International Relations and Mandarin at university. I traveled every chance I got and never looked back. I just love the work, the industry, the region and the lifestyle.
Please tell us about yourself and what you like to do in your free time.
I am originally from Los Angeles and a native English speaker. I also speak a bit of Mandarin, Thai, Nepali, Khmer, Spanish and I am trying to learn French at the moment.
I’m an avid cyclist, sailor, yogi and music lover. I ride everywhere I can and have been to all corners of Phnom Penh on two wheels, including regularly going to all the beautiful islands on the Mekong. Lately I’ve also been going to a lot of stand-up comedy nights, which have been a great way for me to detach from everything and just have a good laugh.
I am thinking about adopting a cat.
What are some favorite things about Cambodia? Food? Destinations?
I love this Khmer soup called kra kor, which is made with fish, pork, lots of lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, garlic, turmeric and galangal. I’m also a big fan of Chinese style lamien noodles served in duck broth with roasted duck leg. It’s a perfect blend of Chinese and Khmer cuisine.
For destinations, I love Kampot and Kep. Even though they are separate towns, I consider them the same destination. They are such beautiful, quiet, charming and relaxing places I always can’t wait until the next time I get a chance to go back. Kampot actually has a bustling arts and food scene at the moment and of course Kep is always great for some delicious fresh local crab and ideally some sailing if the wind is good.
