Charming Boutique Hotels Amongst Historical Places

February 6, 2014 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: , , , , ,

Khiri Travel’s roundup of new and intriguing hotel options from around the region….

Lotus Village, Sukhothai, Thailand

What are the surroundings like?

Near the river in Sukhothai town is Lotus Village located on a quiet part of this city rich in history. Sukhothai town is about 12 kilometers from the Sukhothai Historical Park.

Why do we like it?

Traditional build wooden bungalows in a lush garden setting make up the resort, which has been in business for 18 years. The boutique hotel has recently been fully renovated and is run by French owner Michel. We especially like the large spacious rooms and excellent French cuisine.

What can we do in the surroundings?

Besides visiting the well-preserved and picturesque temple ruins of old Sukhothai, travellers can also take a countryside tour to learn more about local daily life. Between February and September, the mini light and sound shows in the evenings are well worth the visit. Once a month – the first is on 22 February – this spectacle can be enjoyed at Wat Sasri. Admission is free.

Teav Boutique Hotel, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

What’s it like?

The Teav is the latest modern boutique style hotel to emerge in Phnom Penh. It’s a fantastic combination of traditional Khmer styles with a French colonial influence fused with a modern feel, all in the center of Phnom Penh.

Where can we find this hotel?

A new property in town, the Teav Boutique Hotel can be found on 310 Street, close to Independence Monument, a more upscale residential area of Phnom Penh. Currently the owners are preparing for the grand opening, which will be very soon.

Why do we think it’s special?

Our Sales Manager, Chris, fell for the hotel’s really funky design, giving it a unique style. Together with affordable rates, this sets the hotel apart from other properties in town.

Sabye Bangkok Hotel, Thailand

Where can we find this hotel?

Although the hotel is at Bangkok’s Rattanakosin Island near bustling Khao San Road, it’s in a quiet non-touristy location at time-honored Ban Phan Tom community.

Why do we think it’s special?

The building is half concrete and half timber, a popular Thai style of building in the past. Apart from being a residence, it used to serve as a commercial workshop for Krung Tom – the fine art of nielloware. These historical aspects are reflected in the hotel’s interior and furniture and create part of its charm.

What’s it like?

The new hotel is a three-star boutique style property with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. There are 23 rooms with either two single beds or one double. Each room has it’s own color theme.

The Columns, Kampot, Cambodia

What’s it like?

The Columns is a really nice boutique hotel in charming Kampot. It has a three to four-star bed and breakfast feeling to it and is based in resort-like French colonial houses. It’s a perfect place to stay and visit the many attractions of Kampot Province.

Why do we like it?

The reason why we like this accommodation so much is because of it being a genuine resort-style colonial property. It lies in the heart of the city and has an easy walk to the riverside for a serene sunset and a drink.

What can we do in the surroundings?

Kampot lies on the coast of Cambodia and has a charming riverfront promenade. Visitors to this part of the country can take river journeys, visit Bokor Mountain with it’s national park and former French hill station, or travel to Kep for the country’s best crab meat. The relaxed atmosphere and well-preserved colonial-style buildings really make this a great stop on any itinerary.
