Consumer Heaven in Thailand’s Capital City
Nightlife and night markets go hand in hand in Bangkok. For an authentic, open air shopping experience, try this market on for size.
The authentic, open air Rot Fai Market (Train Market) is located on Srinakarin Road, just behind Seacon Square Shopping Mall in the southeast corner of Bangkok. This market has garnered a massive reputation from its previous location before its move to Srinakarin back in 2013. The new location retains the authentic character of the old one, but is bigger and better with more than 2,000 vendor stalls. It truly is one of the best-kept secrets to be found in Thailand’s capital city.
Separated into several sections, the Rot Fai market has a Market Zone, a Warehouse Zone and Rod’s Antiques. There is also a section to find street food sellers and trendy bars. The impressive variety of items for sale includes antiques, retro household goods, old electronic appliances, used auto parts, shoes and a collection of vintage fashion accessories and second hand clothes.
The main highlight at the market, open from sunset to midnight, is the street food. The most popular stalls are bars with cheap cocktail drinks, fried noodles and ice cream while each vendor employs various gimmicks to attract potential customers.
