Sri Lanka

The historical Sigiriya lion rock fortress is sri lanka

Vaccinations in-country

As of 10th January 2022, around 63.2% of the total population have been fully vaccinated and 73% of the population have received at least the first dose. The third booster shot is also currently being offered and around 19.5% of the population have received it. Almost all the guides and hotel staff are fully vaccinated.

Current situation entering the country

Sri Lanka has already opened its borders for tourists since January 2021 and has welcomed more than 100,000 tourists since then.

All tourists except children below 12 years are required to have a negative PCR Test result within 72 hours prior to boarding the flight to Sri Lanka. No minimum number of days is required for a stay and no fully restrictive quarantine required (even for unvaccinated tourists).

All visitors to apply visa online through eta.gov.lk.

Fully Vaccinated travelers can stay at any type of accommodation and No on-arrival PCR test required. Unvaccinated children aged 12-18 years traveling with fully vaccinated parents will be required to undergo an On-arrival PCR test at an approved laboratory or a Level 1 Safe and Secure Certified hotel. Unvaccinated Children below 12 years traveling with fully vaccinated parents will not be required to undergo an on-arrival PCR test.

Unvaccinated travelers are required to undergo on arrival PCR tests and travel within a bio bubble for 14 Nights/15 Days while undergoing further PCR tests depending on the duration of their tour. Since the protocols are much tighter, we do not encourage unvaccinated travelers until the protocols are relaxed.

Most of the travel restrictions and partial lockdown measures for the locals have been lifted off and life is almost back to normal.

All tourists must abide to social distancing measures and wearing masks in public is mandatory.

Thailand

Bangkok - Thailand

Vaccinations in Thailand

As of 10th January 2022, 67.8% of the population of Thailand is fully vaccinated. Also, around 74.3% of the population at least got their first dose. The third booster shot is already given to nearly 10%.

Current situation entering the country

Test & Go

Thailand has reopened with quarantine-free for vaccinated travelers from 63 approved countries, starting November 1st. The list of countries includes The United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and Sweden. Full list is below.

The Omicron Variant has no effect on the entry regulations.

To enter Thailand, those coming from any of the 63 countries need to register on the Thailand Pass  with the following documents:

    • Passport
    • Thai Visa (if required)
    • Certificate of Vaccination
    • Proof of reservation and payment for 1 night at a SHA+ hotel, including the fee for one RT-PCR test and the airport transfer
    • Insurance with minimum coverage of 50,000 USD

Khiri Travel can assist with making the reservations for the first night and the arrival PCR test. Please note that most hotels that Khiri Travel uses are already SHA+ certified, however, each hotel has different ways on how they handle the PCR test.

Those arriving on an international flight in either Chiang Mai or Phuket can do their test on arrival there. In Phuket, the test is done at the airport, not at the hotel.

Getting the Thailand Pass is the responsibility of the passenger. The system is easy to use with the above document prepared. It can take up to 7 days to get the Pass, though usually, it comes much faster,

Proof of a negative PCR test taken no longer than 72 hours before departure is needed.

The above are the main considerations. On arrival, travelers are also required to download the ‘MorChana’ application and they will receive an ATK self-test kit, to be taken on day 6.

Potential changes to the PCR Test on arrival

Thailand was planning to exchange the PCR test to a rapid ATJ test on 16 December and onwards.  The appearance of the Omicron Variant may push this backward by a few weeks.

Daily life in Thailand

Life in Thailand is back to normal. The exception is that nightclubs remain closed. However, outside venues and restaurants are all open. The time limit for serving alcohol in these places has just been extended from 9 pm to 11 pm. While Phuket is already quite busy over the Christmas and New Year period, other parts of Thailand have plenty of places. In fact, this is a great period to travel to Thailand as the famous tourism sites, and beaches are very quiet.

Khiri Travel Thailand is full-back open 6 days a week and happy to give further information and take bookings!

It is also strongly recommended that travelers obtain a full and proper travel insurance policy from a provider that also includes cover for covid-19.

Proof of a negative PCR test taken no longer than 72 hours before departure is needed.

Upon arrival travelers will be required to undergo a rapid covid-19 test, currently there is no charge for this test however this is subject to change. Vietnam

Ha Long Bay_Vietnam

Vaccinations in-country

As of 10th January 2022, around 80.4% of the population in Vietnam have received their first dose. Where the number of fully vaccinated skyrocketed to 57.9% compare to 21.6% in November.

Current situation entering the country

The country is effectively closed for tourism. Vietnam has suspended the entry of all foreigners since March 2020 until further notice to limit spread of virus.

Commercial flights are only available for Vietnamese repatriation, foreign experts, ex-pats already residing in Vietnam, and diplomatic purposes.

After a period of no new cases, we are experiencing a surge in cases. June 13th had the highest number of daily cases since the pandemic’s beginning with 95 new cases reported. The country is in a semi-lockdown, and Saigon, in particular, is affected. Despite the total number of cases being low compared to other nations, Vietnam is cautious and will continue to be stringent to prevent the spread.

Although the outbreaks have been controlled exceptionally well, the government has announced publicly that the vaccine is the only way out of this situation. This gives everyone hope that they will focus on this; there are even discussions that private institutions can acquire and administer vaccines.

Country reopening plans

There is currently no plan to reopen borders for tourism while the vaccine rollout is at its current level. On a positive note:  once enough vaccines become available, we expect Vietnam to be one of the world’s most efficient in administering jabs

Vietnam plans to reopen the resort island of Phu Quoc to vaccinated foreign visitors in late November, authorities said, as the country looks to reboot its tourism industry after almost two years of closure. Similar to their neighboring countring strategy Thailand’s Phuket and Indonesia’s Bali. The island alone attracted around 670,000 tourism and generated more than $18 billion in 2019.
