Culinary Tours Start at a Saigon Local Market

October 1, 2014 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: , , , ,

Here at Khiri Travel Vietnam we are big fans of local market culture. Shopping at fresh markets is part of the daily life of Vietnamese people. We know a trip to the vendor stalls is full of adventure and we want your travelers to experience the same! Among the various tours we have recently developed involving market visits, there are two that always stand out in comparison to the others.

Everyone knows Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City, a crowded, bustling place located in the city center that represents everything that survived the conflicts that took place in this city. Accompanied by our guides, your clients have a genuine opportunity to learn about the typical Vietnamese fruits and vegetables and even learn how to make spring rolls by themselves in comparison with the local sellers. Since rolling a tasty rice paper wrapped bundle is the birthright of every Vietnamese, the local shoppers are curious spectators of how well (or badly) the foreigners perform. Definitely a very fun competition on Vietnamese spring rolls! This activity is mostly done in the afternoon, after a fantastic morning visiting the highlights of the city.

Another fun tour Khiri Travel Vietnam offers is a Vietnamese cooking class in a local home preceded by a visit to the market. This tour starts early with a visit to a very local and authentic market far away from the city center. With the help of the rural family and our guide, your traveler will walk through the different sections of vendor stalls teeming with fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and all the ingredients needed for a private cooking lesson. At a very big local house your guests will learn in a more intimate space how to cook typical Vietnamese food. Sometimes we learn how to make spring rolls, another time we make a fresh salad. After the effort of shopping, chopping and cooking, travelers are usually happy to sit for lunch and taste their own culinary masterpieces!

We always support the idea of markets being one of the best activities for those travelers who are looking to experience home grown local culture and authentic traditions.
