Custom Basics About Entering Myanmar

July 11, 2013 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: , ,

Since Myanmar opened up many myths have been going around about the travel arrangements necessary before being able to enter the country. For a while it was possible to enter Myanmar overland, then only air travel entries were possible via Yangon. Now that the country’s tourism industry is growing, preparing a trip seems more straightforward.

Khiri Travel Myanmar likes to give you an overview of all possible ways to enter Myanmar from other countries in the Greater Mekong Region.

The air routings that currently operate are those between Bangkok and Yangon, Bangkok and Mandalay, and the connections between Yangon and Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and in the near future, Vientiane.

Arriving overland from Thailand is possible from various checkpoints, although borders like the Mae Sot/Myawaddy and Phrachuap Khiri Khan/Singkhorn borders only allow travellers to spend one day in Myanmar. Traveling overland like this means re-entering Thailand at the same border crossing.

The Tachilek/Mae Sai border near the Golden Triangle in Northern Thailand is a different story. Travelers here can enter and exit with a 14-day time interval and travel up to Keng Tung. Khiri Travel Myanmar can also help clients to get a special Departure Permit to depart Myanmar via another point. Arrangements for this permit take about 10 days and clients need to obtain a valid visa before traveling to Myanmar. Travelers who want to see more than the area between Tachilek and Keng Tung can fly to Heho Airport and onwards from there.

This large network of air and land routes offers an exciting variety of itinerary options.
