Discover Old Town Phuket for Families With Kids

June 12, 2014 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: , , ,

Traveling with children presents some challenges. Here is how Khiri Travel Phuket office is tweaking their popular Discovery Walk tour for families with children.

Phuket Old Town with the family

In our Khiri Travel Thailand office, we often get requests about things to do with families in Phuket. Of course there are the usual options of mini golf, a water park and zip lining. However, we also believe the kids can enjoy local culture in a more immersive way. This was the start of our Phuket branch office creating a travel option especially for families visiting the southern part of Thailand.

Our Discovery Walk is becoming a staple in Phuket. It is short, interesting and has the potential to be tweaked for families. We recently ran a workshop with our guides about making this popular tour more child friendly.

990 Coffee break Phuket Discovery Walk Khiri Travel

While on the walk we have some surprises for the kids. For example, at the amulet market give them the chance to select a small amulet for a souvenir. When we stop at a small shop for coffee and a roti, we give them the opportunity to create artwork or color a drawing using the Phuket Old Town as an inspiration and to keep them engaged in what is going on. We stop for durian ice cream, which is both a local specialty and a tasty treat.

990 Butterfly World Phuket

To reinforce the child friendly theme, we added the Butterfly Garden and Insect World that are both a short drive from Phuket Old Town. This place is perfect for kids: all kinds of nasty bugs such as tarantulas, scorpions, and huge roaches. The fluttering butterflies probably appeal more to the little girls. Our Phuket branch manager has been in close contact with owner Khun Aphizak to offer travelers this special visit.

Yesterday morning we did an extra guide training in Phuket Old Town to emphasize the challenges and the differences between catering to adult travelers versus families with children.
