Exploring Hoi An’s Rural Backwaters by Bike

March 20, 2018 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: , , , , , , ,

Hoi An, in central Vietnam, is well known as a multi cultural heritage town of charming architecture as recognized by UNESCO. In the surrounding environs, there are also fascinating landscapes of farm fields, rivers and canals. Khiri Travel Vietnam offers a tour of insights into Hoi An’s hardworking farmers and fishermen – the backbone of the economy.

Khiri Travel Vietnam will take your clients to visit the Thu Bon estuary, a network of waterways fanning out from Hoi An for 34 kilometers.  Close to the water, Hoi An has the enviable quality of being near both beautiful ocean beaches and fishing villages. Local fishermen from Vong Nhi, De Vong, Phuoc Trach, Dai An, and Tan Hiep catch and process seafood products for both domestic consumption and export.

We also offer some lighter moments on this tour for some fun activity. We will take your clients along the quaint country roads by bicycle to see water buffaloes, rice paddies, organic vegetable farms and meet some hardworking Vietnamese farmers. The local people are peaceful, friendly and very welcoming.

Your clients will enjoy trying to catch fish with the fisherman’s net. There are also Hoi An’s iconic “basket boats”, small circular vessels (the work horse of the waterways) to try navigating through the water. These are used for carrying small amounts of fish, mint, basil, coriander, lettuce, wood and rice from field to home. We will also learn the importance of coconut palms and their role in the rural economy.

Khiri recommends this six hour boat and bicycle ‘immersion’ (maybe literally) tour of rural Vietnam. For more information and bookings, please contact [email protected]
